Ultra-Lightweight & High Rigidity: Densities from 45–250 kg/m³ optimize weight reduction without compromising structural integrity.
Closed-Cell Structure: <1.5% water absorption (ASTM D2842) ensures long-term durability in wet environments.
CNC Machining Compatibility: ±0.2mm tolerance precision cutting for complex geometries like paddle shapes, hull curves, and transom supports.
Low Resin Absorption: Microcellular structure reduces resin consumption during composite layup, lowering production costs.
Thermal & UV Stability: Performs reliably in temperatures from -50°C to +80°C with enhanced UV resistance.
We supply custom machined kayak components as partially pre-cut panels, allowing for:
Secure Shipping: Paddle and hull profiles are nested within full PVC foam boards, retained by micro-tabs to prevent damage during transit.
Easy Final Processing: Customers easily punch out the pre-formed parts for final finishing, layup, or coating.
Custom Designs: Submit your CAD files for CNC cutting of paddles, hull sections, transoms, or other kayak parts.
Density Grades: P45 (insulation focus) to P250 (high-load structural)
Surface Treatments: Grooved, perforated, or scrim-backed for improved resin adhesion
Dimensions: Up to 500mm thickness; panel sizes tailored to your production needs

Kayak Hulls: Lightweight core material for composite sandwich construction
Paddles: CNC-shaped paddle cores for consistent balance and strength
Transoms: Reinforced PVC foam cores for motor-mounted kayaks
Recreational Watercraft: Canoes, rowboats, and small sailboats
No MOQ: Prototype orders accepted
Free A4 Samples: Test our material quality
Fast Lead Time: 5–7 days for samples; 15–20 days for full container loads
Global Shipping: FCL/LCL options with customized palletization

Q1: Why is UNION's PVC foam core the ideal material for kayak paddles and hulls?
A: Our StruCell® PVC foam core is specifically engineered for high-performance marine applications like kayaks. It offers an unmatched strength-to-weight ratio, which is critical for creating paddles that are easy to handle and hulls that are both light and durable. Its closed-cell structure ensures near-zero water absorption, preventing rot, delamination, and weight gain over time. Furthermore, it provides excellent vibration damping, resulting in a smoother, less fatiguing paddling experience, and superior impact resistance for accidental bumps against rocks or docks.
Q2: How do your CNC-machined kayak paddle work? Do you provide finished paddles?
A: We are the core material experts and manufacturers. We supply the precise CNC-machined PVC foam core that serves as the foundational structure for your kayak paddle. This is shipped securely nested within a full panel for protection. You then complete the manufacturing process by laminating it with carbon fiber or fiberglass skins, using resin infusion or hand lay-up, to create the final, high-performance paddle. This allows paddle manufacturers to leverage our precision core machining while applying their own proprietary composite techniques and finishes.
Q3: What are the benefits of the "breakaway tab" design for shipping the paddle cores?
A: The innovative breakaway tab design is a key part of our value-added service. By leaving small, strategically placed micro-tabs connecting the paddle shape to the main panel, we:
Eliminate Shipping Damage: The rigid foam panel protects the delicate paddle during transit, preventing breaks and cracks.
Ensure Dimensional Stability: It keeps the precision-machined shape perfectly intact until you are ready to use it.
Simplify Handling: The standard-sized panel is easy to pack, store, and handle in your workshop.
Q4: Can you machine PVC foam cores for entire kayak hulls, not just paddles?
A: Absolutely. While paddles are a popular application, our large-bed CNC machinery is capable of machining full-sized kayak hull cores and deck cores from multiple panels joined together. We can produce complex, 3D-contoured hull shapes with high precision, enabling you to build lighter, stronger, and more performance-oriented kayaks using composite sandwich construction. This is a common service we provide for kayak manufacturers.
Q5: What density of PVC foam should I choose for a kayak paddle vs. a kayak hull?
A: The optimal density depends on the required stiffness and load:
Kayak Paddles (Shaft & Blade): We recommend our P80 or P100 density foam. This provides the perfect balance of lightweight flexibility in the shaft for comfort and rigid strength in the blade for powerful strokes.
Kayak Hulls: For most recreational and touring kayaks, P60 or P80 is ideal, offering excellent stiffness and buoyancy. For high-performance or rough-water kayaks that require greater impact resistance, P100 or P130 is preferred.
Our engineering team can advise you on the best material choice based on your specific design and performance requirements.
Q6: Do you offer samples before placing a bulk order?
A: Yes, we strongly encourage it. We offer free A4-sized samples of our PVC foam cores so you can test the material quality, machinability, and compatibility with your resin system. This allows you to verify its performance before committing to a large production run. Please contact us with your intended application, and we'll recommend the best sample for your needs.
